Great Weekend by Men’s and Women’s Ski

UCONN MEN GET THEIR FIRST WIN OF THE SEASON, WOMEN THIRD. A great weekend racing under perfect conditions at Crotched Mountain in New Hampshire. The men won their first race of the season, moving from r 4th place after the first run to beat out Clarkson, Castleton and Babson on Saturday, with Griffin Struyk narrowly missing the win to claim second , followed closely by Brian Chambers in 4th and red-hot Mike White in 10th The girls, led by Lexi Skovran in 3rd , Kelsie Carlette in 13th and Jill Sherpa in 23rd just missed the podium in 4th place. On Sunday , the men skied to a 4th place finish in the GS with Griffin Struyk again the top Husky in 12th, followed by Joe Demuyt in 15th and Mike White in 16th, and Bobby Chambers in 20th, skiing with a pole taped to the cast covering his broken thumb. The girls really stepped up their game in the GS on Sunday. They were in second place after the first run, only a few tenths off the eventual winner, the powerhouse women’s team from Brown. They dropped off the pace just a bit and fell to third , less than a second behind Babson in second and Brown again on top. Leading the charge again was Lexie in 2nd, Kelsie in 4th and Jill in 16th.
It was also a bitter sweet day, as it marked the end of the collegiate careers for Seniors Alex Kressic, and Meghan Goode, as well as the departure of Senior Kelsie Carlette who is off to the Alpine World Championships in St. Moritz as part of Team Ireland.
Very proud of this group of kids. Now it’s off to Proctor for the last regular season races of the year in the FISU series, always a fun event.
